Asclepias fascicularis
“Narrow Leaved Milkweed”

Not only is this elegant California native a favorite larval food Milkweed for the Western Monarch butterfly, it’s by far the easiest to grow! Tolerant of a wider range of extremes, it’s adaptable to high & low water, garden soil or CLAY, it creates a bushy, 3’ x 3’ form with many slender branching stems & long narrow, 5” long leaves topped by pretty 2” rosey-pink clusters from June to September. A strong perennial that returns bigger & better every year. Drought tolerant & needing NO SUMMER WATER once established, it is advised that you plant it, water it for a month, & then let it figure the rest out on its own. This species goes dormant in late Summer & emerges again in the Spring! Ships dormant until April.

NOTE: If you are planning to introduce Monarch caterpillars to this plant, we recommend letting it establish for one season before doing so. The plant - and the caterpillars will thank you!
