| Asphodeline lutea
“Jacob’s Rod”/ “King’s Asphodel”

Said to grow in the Elysian Fields - the final resting place of Greek heroes - this robust, easy and long-lived Mediterranean Lily relative is certainly a champion in our dry gardens. Thrusting boldly up in June and July, the sturdy & upright spikes to 4’ tall are densely studded with fragrant 2” starry, bright yellow blooms. I love the contrasting & energetic effect of the curling, grassy blue green tufts of foliage beneath. Gets better, bolder & bloomier each year! Best in well-drained soil.
