| Perideridia bolanderi
“Yampa”
This California native used to be a main food staple for native people & early settlers. The root can be eaten raw or cooked, can be dried or ground into a powder. It has a sweet & nutty flavor. It is said to be good for sore throats & coughs among other things. The young leaves are edible & the seeds can be used as one would use caraway seeds. And it’s pretty too! The white, flat-topped flowers are graceful on slender stems, to about 2’.
