There seems to be a lot of diversity under the umbrella of this species, but let it NOT be said that this one's a wimp. The leaves & flowers may be variable, but this is a TOUGH PLANT & long lived!! There have been documented cases of tubers of this species living for longer than a century & growing to the size of a Frisbee! Blooms from late Summer into Fall before the foliage emerges & the leaves persist through Winter. Avoid over-watering in Summer when tubers are dormant, but give this plant good soil & light shade for best performance. Delightful as a groundcover under Azaleas! May take it’s time to establish, but afterwards is sure to be a steady & reliable Autumn delight! Mulch tops in colder winter zones.
