Calochortus superbus
“Superb Mariposa Lily”
photo(left):randomtruth
Food for the soul, this native bulb from the northern Sierra bears large, pale to dark lavender-pink, cup-shaped flowers on stems 18” to 24” tall. Each bloom forms a beautiful central design of yellow-edged-maroon brush marks & spots - pure eye candy! Calochortus need well-drained soil that stays dry in Summer for its “rest period,” when it goes dormant. The grass-like foliage will reappear again with the Spring rains. Excellent as a potted specimen or in a dry rock garden. Worth the effort! Bait for snails
