Cytisus multiflorus

Cytisus multiflorus Cytisus multiflorus

Glorious in May & June when covered in dense masses of small, white, scented, pea flowers. Cytisus multiflorus makes a lovely & graceful shrub quickly reaching 3’ to 4’ tall & almost as wide. The blooms are held on multitudes of rush like, grey-green, branching stems with small, linear foliage. Simple to grow – it’s plant & forget, not fussy about soil or water, though it does need some drainage. For a small garden, prune immediately after bloom to keep it compact. Native to Spain, Portugal, & Northwest Africa & cultivated since 1752. Cytisus multiflorus is a broom, so do be careful of planting it next to a wild area, though I’ve never had it self-sow for me at all.
