This Lithops relative hailing from South Africa features opposing sets of 2-4” globe-shaped leaves that look for all the world like speckled stones. Stemless and rubbery, plants produce a new pair of dark green to brownish leaves from within the old ones each year and are followed in early Summer by unusually large (3”) daisy-like fragrant flowers in shades of yellow, coppery-orange or occasionally pink. These living stone plants are best grown in pots and given full sun. Several can be arranged in one pot. Plant in very fast-draining soil and initially water every two weeks. Once established, water a bit in the Spring and let go dry all Summer. Over-watering will rot plants. If healthy, there should only be 2 pairs of leaves, as the old set will die back in the Fall. Hardy to 20 degrees F.
