Helianthus laetiflorus
‘Lemon Queen’

A big, bold, beautiful and easy PERENNIAL sunflower! This Midwest native grows quickly to an impressive 6-8’ tall and 3’ wide, with an airy, erect form. Starting in late Summer it shoots out masses of 2” wide lemon yellow flowers with darker gold centers, held above the foliage. Flowering continues for 6-8 weeks attracting bees, butterflies and hummers. Seeds follow, attracting songbirds. Given its height and sun-loving nature, this is an excellent backdrop for shorter perennials. Excellent as a cut flower. Establishes readily in almost any soil but performs best in average soil and minimum water - soils that are too rich or moist may cause plants to grow too quickly and topple. Specimens gradually clump out over time. Prune stems to near ground level in Winter to refresh plants.
