Dahlia imperialis ‘Double White’“White Tree Dahlia”

For Fall-early Winter garden drama, it’s hard to beat Dahlia imperialis, commonly known as “Tree Dahlia”. And this hard to find beautiful selection provides extra chills and thrills with its large (4”-6” across) double white blooms. Very fast growing to 12’ tall or more with thick bamboo-like stems and huge tropical leaves, “Tree Dahlias” won’t take up much width in the garden but can be susceptible to wind damage causing snapped stems. This ‘Double White’ version though, was propagated from a shorter plant (8’), which properly withstood winter winds. Grow in full sun and rich soil. Prune back severely after bloom is finished and once again in early Summer for controlled height. Excellent against a house or fence.
