Carefree and easy to grow, this stunning California native wildflower boasts showy crimson tubular flowers with green reflexed tips. Strappy leaves emerge during the rainy season and 16-25” flower spikes follow in late Spring. Pollinated by hummingbirds, it’s also quite attractive to butterflies. Once settled in it will slowly spread to make a 3’ clump. Naturally found at the edge of woods, it benefits from a bit of shade in hotter areas. It grows in full sun in my coastal garden and has been very happy. My soil is light clay, but it is also very tolerant of sand. Perfect for containers as long as it is kept dry in the Summer. Summer dormant.
