Aristolochia macroura

Aristolochia macroura

Hey freaky flower fans! A rare species from one of my favorite genera. Growing upwards of 10’, with three-lobed shiny leaves, this fast evergreen vine flowers whenever the temperatures are high. The blooms are pitcher shaped, & dark brown with stripes, & the “lid” of the pitcher has an elongated tail that is in excess of 12” long!! Native to Brazil, this species requires good drainage, added compost, & regular water for best appearance, & may look frail if these things aren’t provided. Frost will definitely damage the plant, but it’s very vigorous & recovers quickly. Some people say it has an offensive odor, but I’ve never noticed!
