Q: Are we fancy, or are we fancy? A: We’re REALLY fancy! Check out this so-outrageous variegated form of out-of-this-world Impatiens niamniamensis! It’s just like ‘African Queen’ but with high drama foliage. Grows to 3’ high, around 1’ wide & blooms YEAR ROUND where cold is of no concern. Each flower is 1” with a beak-like form in ketchup & mustard colors. Once mature, blooms appear in profusion, always crowded around the stem just under. Many people grow Impatiens niamniamensis as a houseplant & this variegated form is slightly more sensitive & slow. If you have a bright, but not sunny window, that would be an ideal position. In the garden, grow in shade or morning sun & protect from all frost! The species is from tropical Africa, where it never sees much cold.
Note: Generally, species Impatiens prefer cool Summer climates with little frost, and suffer in areas with too much heat and humidity!
