Growing naturally in heavy clay soils where it forms colonies, this delightful, rare, South African bulb bears showy, shiny, bright yellow and open, cup-shaped blooms an inch across with chocolate brown centers and brown tips on some petals. The flowers appear 2-4 to a spike and open around noon from February to April. The leaves are 4 or 5 and sword shaped. Thrives in a sandy mix, as well as clay and makes an excellent pot specimen. Like most South African cape bulbs, it goes Summer dormant and should remain dry until the rains begin again in the Fall.
