Greetings gardenistas! Little by little, the days are getting longer, the sweet sound of birdsong outside our windows is getting louder and we've had a decent drenching to perk up our gardens and the seedlings - which can only signal one thing for us Western gardeners - SPRING IS UPON US!
In honor of this momentous time of year - so full of promise and potential! - we've put together an inspirational and uplifting SPRING SLIDESHOW to get you in the gardening mood. Check out our luscious plant combos and favorite color schemes for the new season!
Join us for a fun and fascinating Fruit Tree Pruning and Grafting Workshop with horticulturist and educator John Valenzuela of Cornucopia Food Forest Gardens on Saturday, February 27 at 11 am!
An integral member of the Golden Gate chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers society and coordinator for their annual Scion Exchange, there's no one better suited to guide you into the wonderful world of fruit trees!
And now YOU can be the envy of the neighborhood with our wild and wonderful Mediterranean-climate-loving bulbs from South Africa and beyond!
We're super picky about our bulbs. Since we nurse and nurture most of them from seed, we don't release them to the public until they're well-rooted and ready for prime-time. All bulbs are in active growth in 4" pots when we ship them out (unless noted), ensuring that they're alive and thriving, ready to be planted the minute they get to your garden.
It's easy and rewarding to grow bulbs in pots, where you can control the drainage and the water (some may need a dry Summer rest), but many will live long and prosper in the open garden with little more than existing rainfall to get them by. Many will multiply to provide you with more and more beautiful blooms each successive year!
Beloved roses are like beloved friends.
They're loyal and stalwart, never fair-weather or flighty. The best ones don't hog your resources or demand too much of your time.
So when it comes to the care and feeding of your favorite old-fashioned roses, you owe it to them to get it right!
Enter, Cristin Fusano - a rose expert with over 34 years of experience! She'll teach us the theory behind Winter rose pruning, including exactly where to cut and why, here at the nursery on Sat., January 30 at 11 am. Cristin truly knows what roses need and is generous with her knowledge. Follow her easy steps for growing strong, healthy bushes that produce beautiful blooms and vigorous canes each year.
Ahhh, the smell of sweet success!
Visitors to our nursery are always blown away by the massive bloom-o-rama they encounter when our 8' tall Sweet Peas are in full, glorious flower come April and May. "Why don't my Sweet Peas get that big?" they ask. Well, we've got a checklist for success for you, starting with the easiest and best thing you can do: PLANT NOW! Sweet Peas are hardy annuals and planting them now in temperate climates like ours gives them plenty of time to go to town underground, growing a robust network of roots soaking up all this glorious rain!
No matter what size garden you have, there's room for at least one fruit tree!
January is the perfect time for us Bay Area gardeners to plant bare root fruit trees and we are thrilled to welcome back our dedicated and beloved FRUIT TREE GENIUS, Phil Pursel of Dave Wilson Nursery on Jan. 16 at 11 am!

Wondering what you should do to make sure your existing trees are in tip-top shape for maximum yield? He's got you covered.
